Catalyst returns to IF Theatre’s Blackbox stage for a stunning adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s shocking play with music. In the court of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, Antonio Salieri is the established composer. Enter the greatest musical genius of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri has given himself to God so that he might realize his sole ambition, to be a great composer. Mozart is a foul-mouthed, graceless oaf who has that which is beyond Salieri’s envious grasp: Genius.
Amadeus explores themes of genius, jealousy, betrayal, and an artist’s relationship with God. This bold play with music reveals the complex and destructive relationship with the court of public opinion, the fear of obsolescence, and the importance of leaving an artistic legacy… no matter the consequences.
Content Advisory: This play contains adult language and mild adult themes. It is recommended for ages 13+
